Had a fantastic day leading the AI & cybersecurity session for the U.S. Department of State #TechWomen23 initiative. I presented an overview of the AI landscape at present; ranging from deepfakes and misinformation to the potential threat of cyber-fuelled nuclear warfare. I showcased some of our lab’s work in the detection of video deepfakes of world leaders (https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2216035119), and my own work on deepfake and voice clone detection in the audio space (https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.07683). I then lead the discussion on the key challenges and opportunities of AI for emerging technology; which the TW cohort were brilliantly engaged with and raised concerns including regulation, workforce displacement and commercial P&L.
Summary:
U.S. Department of State TechWomen 23 orientation in the City and County of San Francisco kicked off at CITRIS and the Banatao Institute at the University of California, Berkeley. These leaders were treated to a visit from Oski, brilliant lunch talks on AI/Cybersecurity, Climate/Energy, Health/Biotech, and Innovation/Inclusion, and campus tours with women engineers from SWE (Society for Women Engineers) and AWE (Association of Women in EECS). A fantastic start to what promises to be a transformative experience for these talented global women in tech!
